Heads up, cricket fans! The Royal Challengers just got a Bengaluru upgrade!

The Indian Premier League’s Royal Challengers Bangalore is now officially the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The IPL franchise RCB has officially changed part of its name from Bangalore to Bengaluru. Now the official name of RCB is Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The announcement was made on February 19, 2024, during the team's annual "Unbox" event held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The event celebrated the achievements of both the men's and recently crowned Women's Premier League (WPL) champion RCB teams.

This change aligns the team's name with the city's official name, Bengaluru. The city's name was formally changed from Bangalore to Bengaluru in 2014. This move by the franchise signifies a deeper commitment to connecting with the city and its passionate fan base.

Along with the name change, the franchise unveiled a new jersey for the upcoming IPL season. The updated design featured a red and blue colour scheme, deviating from the team's traditional red and black combination.

“We believe this change will help us further strengthen our connection with Bengaluru and its people,” said a spokesperson for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. By incorporating the local language (Kannada) term "Bengaluru" into the team's name, RCB aims to create a deeper sense of connection with the city and its people.
